In 2016, Fredericton was recognized by KPMG as the most cost competitive business location in the country and was awarded the title of Start-Up Capital of Canada by Start-Up Canada. Sectors of regional importance include ICT, biotechnology, engineering, and natural resources. The city also boasts a thriving arts community with an annual jazz and blues festival and a college dedicated to craft and design.
